Teaching Mode

Last Monday was the first day of school for the 1st semester. As a dutiful teacher, I went to school and see what this school year was in store for me. When I checked my teaching load, I was assigned a new subject with the same class I handled in the previous semester. New subject? You know what that means, right? And that is new textbook to read and new class preparations such as seatworks, assignments, quizzes and long exams.

To solve the problem, I talked to a co-teacher (which happened to be my wife) and we decided to exchange teaching loads. She handled that subject last semester and I thought her supposed subject also last semester. And that solved my problem or shall I say our problem since my co-teacher was under the same predicament.

Anyway, I met my class on Monday and then on Wednesday. I wont say anything about them. Too premature. Never mind my first impressions. I’ll keep it to myself for now. You know what my problem is for now? I’m not in teaching mode yet! It seems like my tongue is still too stiff that I cannot pronounce words very clearly. My concentration is also lacking. And I cant focus! Sigh!

I hope the coming week there will be an improvement. For the better hopefully! Hehe!

Bejeweled Blitz

Since I started playing this game on Facebook, I became so addicted with it! Added fun was that my friends are also playing the game so there is some sort of a competition. My highest score so far is 90,500 which makes me wonder how my other friends do it because they can make scores up to 180,000! When will I ever do it. Sigh!

I found a site which gives tips on how to get high scores. The site is I hope I can apply them so I can beat my friends’ scores.

Disposable Diaper Problem

We are in a dilemma right now. About diapers. It’s the size actually. When Ryx turned 13 months, we started using XL size. Now that he is 15 months, the XL size no longer fits him. We have to switch to XXL size. Now here is the problem. It’s a a known fact that when it comes to diapers, the price vary with the size. The bigger the size, the higher the price. Duh!

Here’s the additional burden. The brand we are using which is among the cheapest ( TBTG! Ryx didnt have any problems with it. He didnt develop any rashes.) does not manufacture XXL size. 😦 So we have no choice but to look for other brands. And when we checked out the market, only Brand X, Brand Y and Brand Z offer such size. My golly!!! It costs us additional P5 to P8. Whew! Another chunk on our meager budget. And here’s the worse. Although Brand X and Brand Y offer bigger sizes ( I think the allowance is big enough until Ryx will be 18 months or so. Hopefully by that time, he is already trained not to pee on his pants.) but they do not last long and they leak. Brand Z is good and can last for 5 hours at least. But the price is deadly.

Help! Waaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

Ryx Aneer’s First Plane Ride

May 21, 2009 was another memorable day for my son Ryx.

On this day, as the title suggests, Ryx had his first airplane ride. I’m lucky that I was given the chance  to be with him on this momentous event. We didnt expect this chance to come this early. But since we dont have a choice I grabbed the opportunity.

The situation was actually like this. We were scheduled to go to Eena’s hometown on that weekend. Suddenly, she received an order coming from the national office that she will be attending a five-day seminar in Cebu on that same week. Since the scheduled visit to Dipolog was already planned and cant be postponed because it will upset things then it means that I have to travel with Ryx by bus to Dipolog while Eena will take the fastcraft (no flights from Cebu to Dipolog during weekend) just to be there on time. But since I cant manage the 8-hour bus ride from Zamboanga to Dipolog alone with Ryx, we decided that we’ll take the plane to Cebu then go to Dipolog together with Eena. Never mind the extra cost we’ll spend on the trip… that’s cost of convenience.

Anyway, days before the departure, I made some research on the dos and donts when traveling with a baby as well as the things you needed to bring. I brought him some foods and something to drink. Brought some books, too. Didnt bother to bring some toys anymore because my handcarry bag was already full with his travel kit ( diapers, extra clothing and feeding bottles).

On the departure day, when we entered the departure area Ryx got planestruck (not starstuck) the moment he saw the plane at the runway. Hehe! He is used to the idea that planes are on air, that’s why.

When it was boarding time, we started our way towards the aircraft. He got shock all the more because it was getting bigger. He didnt cry in case you are wondering. He was amazed by the huge size of the plane. Then we got inside.

During take off, i kept him busy watching outside the window… explained a little that we’re flying… looked at the houses which were getting smaller… the blue sea… etc. He was okay. He didnt cry. He was just silent.

Later when the plane was already stable, he started noticing our seatmate who was seated by the window- a lady in her forties. She was friendly and helpful. She even got Ryx and let him sit on his lap while gazing at the clouds outside. Ryx cooperated too. He displayed no stranger anxiety! Good boy! After a while, I fed him. Then he went to sleep.

When the plane started to descend, Ryx although still asleep got a little uncomfortable. Maybe the pressure bothered him. Then he finally woke up. To ease his discomfort, I gave him the juice drink. It helped in easing his discomfort.

When the plane was already settled, we said thank you to our seatmate then said goodbye.
